THE DIASPORA DEPARTMENT
The Department for the Diaspora handles issues related to the mobilization of the Uganda Diaspora for national development (i.e. transfer of resources/specialist knowledge; skills and technologies for development; and promoting gainful employment of Ugandans abroad; etc.).
The key functions of the Diaspora Department are:
- Strengthening engagement with the Diaspora with a view to encouraging Ugandans abroad to support national development.
- Promoting and strengthening appropriate structures and regulatory regimes that ease investment, financial and commercial transactions by the Diaspora.
- Negotiating, in cooperation with key stakeholders, appropriate legal framework on the bilateral export and / or exchange of labour abroad.
- Promoting incentives to encourage Diaspora skills and knowledge transfer home.
- Providing services as the One-stop centre and channel of information and communication for the Uganda Diaspora community.
- Establish and maintain a data base on the identity, location and skills of the Ugandan Diaspora. The key functions of the Department are:
