DEPARTMENT OF CONSULAR SERVICES
The Consular Services Department provides consular services at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs headquarters and abroad through Uganda's Embassies and Missions.
The key functions of the Department are:
- Strengthening the policy and regulatory framework for the provision of consular services.
- Coordinating the establishment of Uganda Consular Missions abroad.
- Coordinating the provision of consular services by Ugandan Embassies and Missions abroad.
- Providing consular services at Headquarters to Ugandans, Diplomatic Missions and other foreign entities and nationals resident in Uganda.
- Managing consular relations between Uganda and other countries.
- Establishing national and international networks for the provision of consular services.
- Consular Services provided by the Department include:
- General information on consular protection and assistance.
- Next of kin notifications in cases of death, illness, arrest and other emergency situations involving Ugandans abroad.
- Repatriation guidelines in emergency situations abroad.
- Coordination of visa application processes for Government Officials travelling abroad for official work.
- Authentication of academic documents issued by Ugandan academic institutions.
- Coordination of the issuance and renewal of Uganda Diplomatic passports for Ugandans carrying out diplomatic assignments abroad.
- Coordination of consular visits to foreign nationals detained in Uganda.
